And welcome to my Reveal for the One Crayon Color Challenge!
Hosted by the lovely Sally Russick, of the Studio Sublime.
I apologize if the post wasn't up if you were by earlier. My attempt to post before breakfast didn't work. I was distracted by chants of "Pancakes! Bacon! Coffee!" So, now that Kids and Man are fed and caffeinated, I'm back where I belong. Heh.
So, then, the color I chose for this challenge, black, is one that I tend not to work in much. It's weird, I tend to have a lot of black clothing. But not so much in the way of jewelry and accessories are black. I guess that's where I pull the color into my outfits, in the accessories and jewelry. So working and planning something in this color, and monochromatic at that, was a challenge. But fun. However, since I don't have any black or steel wire to use, it's not a completely monochromatic theme. But, then, this is me. And I needs me my metal and wire! So Fail on that, I guess, but I'm cool with it ;) And here's what I came up with.
First off, we have a simple necklace of black and antiqued brass. All of the components in this piece were created by me, specifically for this challenge.

| Swarovski cubes and Czech glass rondelles, both in black, were the first things I pulled out of my stash to work with. |
![]() |
| The focal, simply because apparently I can't work without a focal, is brass that I etched and patina'ed. |
I also created a pair of earrings.

| These earrings feature wonderful antique brass buttons...a sneak peek into what our lovely hostess sent to me for the Button Swap, hosted by Cindy Wimmer! Which you'll see on May 13th :) |
I'd wanted to work on a bracelet, but honestly, I plain ole ran out of time! I hope you're enjoying yourself on this hop...I know I am! Please don't forget to visit everyone else who's playing along! :) Happy Saturday folks!
And I'll leave you with a video...
The Glee version of Back to Black, to stay with the color theme.

What a beautiful necklace! I love your handmade components, and the perfect combination of smooth and rough textures. And the earrings are sweet too.
Very beautiful and feminine !!
I am in love with black tourmaline too...(I think was in the earrings.) You mad lots of fabulous components for this challenge !
not so easy to work with black as I choose too...
Holly you have made such a beautiful piece ....the components are fabulous!! I need to play with metal more. I took a peek at your last post...oh my some lovely pieces there too.
I love your necklace Holly, it has a kind of victorian feel with a very contemporary edge. Very striking - great job.
This is such a great necklace - I would love to wear this! Your etched focal is beautiful. I wish I was brave enough to try etching metal! Those earrings are super fabulous, too - LOVE them!! (oH, and gotta love Glee - thanks for sharing that video!!)
Love how you've taken basic black and infused it with such warmth and beauty!
I just love how you made the earrings. Black can look so flat and you did just the opposite! I can't believe those are buttons! Beauties!
Love them!
Cilla
Beautiful designs!
Gorgeous necklace! Love the focal you created - simple and elegant!
I love your pieces, your work is beautiful and your focal you made is the highlight along with the brass buttons. Awesome!!
Wow, what a dramatic necklace. I love the way you wired the pendant to the string of black cube beads. Amazing work. The earrings are cool too. Great job!
Black is the PERFECT choice for your metal work! Truly lovely.
Those are awesome. I love the components you created. The long pieces look great between the bead groupings. The focal is stunning.
While you berated yourself for using metals, I definitely think you stayed well within the spirit of the design. Since you chose black you could also use tints of black - so various shades of warm and cool greys. And the patinaed copper reads as neutral on the color palette, simply adding a warm element and a beautfiul design.
It was an interesting challenge, wasn't it?
Holly,
Your necklace and earrings are gorgeous. I love the etched pendant!
Therese
That focal is stunning!! This is a perfect necklace to wear on a night on the town! Gorgeous work!
Holly, every bit of both the necklace and earrings is STUNNING!! But that focal you created for your gorgeous necklace is to die for!! PERFECT!!! I'm in love!!
Thank you so much for participating in the hop!!!
I think we saved the best for last! I'm loving the 'black' gang here ... you work is stunning, and the pendant is GORGEOUS! I love, love, love it.
That focal is so unique and beautiful. I think the "black" grouping on this hop wins the creativity award!
Great necklace and earrings!
Well black suits you! The necklace is so elegant. I love all the handmade components.
I love the square and round combined. I love your connections, clasp and focal! It is rustically elegant! Really great.
Holly, this is a lovely set - the focal on the necklace is perfect, I love the way you made components out of beads, such a simple and elegant idea! Beautiful - both the earrings and the necklace!
Very elegant necklace, Holly. Wonderful that you made all of the components. Beautiful etched focal.
I just love your handmade etched pendant - it and your necklace design is stunning.
What lovely creations - and the components you made for the necklace are really pretty!
Very pretty! Love your bail!
The combination of hand etched metal with black stone is a knock out! A very winning color choice. I loved looking through all your work as well!
Love the pieces you've done! I love old buttons and old black glass, so the look of this piece makes me very happy. Great job!
So very pretty! I really really love this one! Great job!
xo
Very nice!
Really awesome!
Love it all and black is a go to color for me especaillly when mixed with metal!!! Fantastic pieces!!!
Beautiful necklace ...
Holy Moley!! These are both really wonderful. I would wear them in a second! I wouldn't have thought to pair the black with the brass, but it really does work out so well. Amazing job. :)
Yup..you rocked it. The focal is gorgeous, the bail is unique, and I always love hammered wie links! Will you wear it? ( and I started hearing AC/DC back in black in the soundtrack in my head...)
Great necklace!
Wow, Holly! I'm not usually drawn to black jewelry, but I LOVE these! That focal is just gorgeous!
